Hello Michele. Very many thanks indeed for order received today. Posted on the 3rd Aug and received here on the 5th!! We can't even manage that here in the UK most of the time!!!!!!
Kind Regards,
John

Hi John
Thanks very much for that news!

It's quite amazing how the post can sometimes get to UK so quickly.

Always takes between 7 to 10 days in the opposite direction though, when you think it would be the other way around...

Very strange, but good to know it happens!

By the way, I had that cold Keo last night and thought about you :-)

A bit cooler today and we even have a small breeze. No doubt the breeze will disappear in another hour or so. LOL

Hello Alon

Thanks for the update and I'm pleased that you like them!

I really liked them too but I am a great fan of trains so I'm a bit biased ;-)

I am starting to put together a list for Thematic collectors in the right hand column on the website, so anything further with trains will end up under Transport (when I get to it).....

I hope to hear from you again in the future. Keep in touch.

Just received the new issue of the Papal Visit and the Cyprus Railway. Only one word can describe the Railway issue "Stunning" Having said that, the Papal Visit stamp is very nice too, a nice portrayal of the Pope I thought.

Thank you Michele for order received this morning. Regarding the 2010 Moufflon vending machine labels, any idea of details? Who designed them? Does anyone else have a point of view?
Regards to you all.
John

---------------------------------------

Hi John,
Sorry for the dealy in replying to you. Not had chance to spit recently as I've been very busy at the office.

For the Moufflon vending machine labels info, I can tell you as follows:
There are 2 label designs - 1 green/yellow and the other with a pinkish/purple.

The artwork & design is by Melane Efstathiadou and Glafkos Theofylakatou.

Printer: Christos Papachristoforou, Nicosia.

Stamp size: 50x24mm

Text on the 2010 Presentation Pack is kindly provided by the Department of Forestry, Nicosia.

I will send you an example of the new 2010 Refugee Fund reprint in your next order. It fits in ever so nicely with the cachet design first day of issues my husband made prior to the issue.

He didn't know it was going to be orange as we receive no prior notification of these stamps - so that was a very pleasant surprise when we realised it!

You can see one of his examples at this link: http://www.cyprusstamps.co.uk/shoponline/prod_880669-Cyprus-Stamps-SG-2010-e1-Refugee-fund-tax-FDC-c692.html

I hope the weather is picking up in UK and am pleased to hear about your son.

Kind regards
Michele

Just received a copy of the 1928 £5.00 forgery, it is a cracker of a forgery and as suggested, an excellent space filler. I am very pleased with it, anyone else take advantage of this offer? It would be nice to hear other opinions on this one.

From: John W (Tue 13th Apr 2010 at 16:30)
Hello Michele. Flight tickets are being transferred to my daughter, her partner and grandchildren. Lost a small fortune on the saga, about two thirds !! It won't happen again, I learn fast! Not sure where they will be staying yet, I am hoping to send stamps along with her for your offer. Trust you are well.
Kind Regards,
John

----------------------------------------
Hi John

Thanks for the update and at least I suppose it's better than losing all the money, although it's no consolation :-(

It's a shame we will not get to meet you this time, but another visit perhaps should be planned for the future?

Will chat nearer the time - just drop me an email when the visit is closer but if you have any scanned images before your daughters' visit, it may give us chance to have an advance peep.

In case you're interested, we've just managed to get hold of some SG17a 1928 £5 Cyprus stamps. (Genuine reproductions, of course) - great as a space filler and have good perforations. Complete with watermark. Circa year 2000.

Will be listed very soon!

Catch up again soon.

Michele

Thank you for that Michele, I will pass your observations onto my son, who knows, there might be a little salvage along the line. I suppose, in the final analysis, I could have flown on my lonesome but not a lot of joy in that really. I will let you know the outcome, I do so hope that you don't get a postcard from Skeggy !!!!!

Kind Regards, John

Hello Michele,
Oh dear! It happened, my son has been made redundant so now it looks as though our trip is off. We are left with four tickets, bought and paid for on Monarch Airlines and I will probably end up with a weekend at Skeggy !!! And I though that my luck was beginning to change!! Probably no chance of getting our money back from the airline. Life eh? I was so looking forward to the trip too.
Kind Regards,
John

----------------------------------------
Oh damn, John

We were really looking forward to finally getting to meet you too :-(

I do believe you can cancel with Monarch through your insurance. You will lose some of the costs but should manage to salvage something. The other option would be to see if they will allow a name change and allow you to resell them?

Let me know what happens.... I might be able to advertise them on some forums at this end.

Or, there may be a cloud with a silver lining and hope your son finds something else very quickly. Lets hope so...

Keep me posted. You can always send me an email directly.

Curium Beach eh? Very nice too. Did you actually go or was this a tease? Any idea what the stamp issue programme is for the remainder of the year Michele?

---------------------------------------
Hiya John

Yes, we went to the Sunshine Restaurant at the far end of Curium Beach and had souvlakia kebab and a cold Keo :-)

On the way back we could see there was a big fire somewhere on Akrotiri RAF base - lots of thick smoke was spiraling into the sky. I heard today it was the Rainbow Theatre that burned down. Investigation is underway as to how it started. It's been closed for 2yrs apparently...

Next (3rd) stamp issue is due out on 5th May - the new Europa and the reprint of the Refugee Tax Fund stamp.

I thought I sent you the list, did I not?

Hello Michele. Very many thanks indeed for new issues that arrived yesterday morning. Special postmark applied in Cyprus on 17th and arrived UK on 19th? Better than UK 1st class inland !!!!!! I was pretty fortunate though, the airmail envelope had not been sealed very well and had been left open !!!!! Great!! About time my luck changed!!
Kindest Regards
John

----------------------------------------

Hello John

Wow! Just how fast did they arrive? That's amazing! Funnily enough, I only remarked on how fast Cyprus post seems to get to UK than than the other way round earlier today...

As for the envelope, I just checked with my Dispatch "department" ;-) and it seems the airmail envelopes are self sealing and when we send from home - my dispatcher adds extra tape to make sure they are sealed securely.

However, as these were FDI's - they were packaged and dispatched directly from our usual post office, (Mixalis) who looks after us collectors very well, and so the tape was not applied this time...

I'm very sorry for this oversight John and will make sure next time, we take extra tape with us for 1st issues.

I'm glad to hear you got them safely... But, thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Hey, see you in July. Not long to go now! Have just got in from sitting outside in the sun on the back veranda reading my book....

Hello Michele. I have been a little busy of late and so apologise for not thanking you earlier for your dedication of Cyprus in the 1940s. Very nice too, a bit before my time!! However I identified the aquaduct, the times I travelled up that road on my way to the SBA at Dhekelia!!!! Lovely memories came flooding back. Saturday evenings and a few beers along the seafront at Larnaca, happy days. Have a lovely Christmas and a cracking New Year. I leave my island in very good hands! Kind Regards, John

---------------------------------------
Hi John,
No problem - we are always pleased to hear from you, no matter when. We too have fond memories of the aqueduct as we spent 3 weeks in Larnaca one winter (towards the end of November 1992) and used to enjoy seeing it all lit up just before we reached the fire station when we were returning in the evenings from our frequent trips to Limassol. You see, even then - I was already planning my "escape" route to Cyprus!
I will keep an eye open for some other snippets that may keep you in touch. We also drove a few times out of Larnaca to Ayia Napa along the Dhekelia road past the refineries. Now, with the new highway and lots of building along the sea road, it's never instantly recognisable.
You too have a good Christmas and we both hope the New Year is better for you.
Looking forward to catching up with you later in 2010.
All the very best

Many thanks for your comments John. Always a pleasure to hear from you!

I must say we were a little disappointed by the plain look of the Christmas issues. Other than the glitter effect on the stars, they aren't very imaginative. My husband makes his own cachets and they are much more inventive, I have to admit.

Did you see my post in the Blog page of the website with the British Pathe footage from 1940's Cyprus yet? I dedicated it to you....

Hi Cyprus Stamps!

Just ordered some stamps for my father-in-law and he wanted me to tell you that he was amazed by your fast delivery and excellent presentation.

He was also pleased to see the excel catalogue of Cyprus stamps dating from 1960-present and would like to request a copy.

Any ideas of how to get a list that dates from around 1880?

Many thanks and keep up the good work!

Reply from Cyprus Stamps:

Thank you for your lovely comments and for letting me use them on our Guestbook.

It's great to receive such good feedback and makes all the hardwork that goes into keeping the website stocked and updated all worthwhile.

I'm glad to hear your father-in-law was pleased with the service.

I am attaching 2 files in reply to your request for the list of Cyprus stamp issues.

We are just updating the Northern Cyprus stamps and if you would like the updated version to be sent when it is completed, please just ask.

As for the issues from 1880, we have made a start on it but, it's rather complex with too many variants and looks like it will be a long and painful progress. But, as the saying in Cyprus goes - siga, siga....

For the care you went to in sending my package with the first day of issue cancellations on the Braille and Refugee stamps, as well as the contents - nice corner block and refugee stamp reprint 2009

Have enjoyed the short contact with you and your collections and hope we have many years of fun "collecting". I am acquiring a lot of new history from this region.

An excellent suggestion from George regarding new issues. I would suggest though that perhaps NEW ISSUES of stamps could be delivered to collectors four times a year. I say this because of the ever increasing number of issues made by most postal authorities in recent years. I currently get my new issues from a UK based dealer but would be delighted if a NEW ISSUE service could be started by Cyprus Stamps.
Kind Regards to all.

John

Hi
Have bought from you twice and have received 5 star service both times. I keep looking for the stamps to fill the gaps.

Regards George

P.S Could you supply new issues for us - perhaps twice a year. Geo
