It therefore issued an announcement with a number of precautionary measures civilians need to take during the heat wave to avoid possible health complications. “Drink more water than you can take,” it advised. “At least five litres a day – soft drinks and caffeine don’t help much. Drink water even if you are not thirsty. Ensure that children and the elderly are also drinking plenty of water.” For those who work outdoors, the Society advises they consume at least 10 litres of water a day. Symptoms of dehydration include headaches, nausea, vomiting, cramps and inability to urinate for long periods of time. To deal with it, the CRCS says one must drink something sweet without gas, taking slow sips at a time, until one is able to urinate properly. |
