A few weeks ago we were contacted with reference to taking part in an interview for the Cyprus Grapevine monthly magazine. We were a little taken aback and at first a bit hesitant but we prepared some information for them and a few days later received a telephone call with some further questions. Posted on Wednesday Jul 14 5:05:00 BST 2010 Listed under: About Us, Cyprus Life The sirens will be operated! If you're on holiday in Cyprus over the next few days, please don't be scared if you hear an air raid alarm or warning sound in the early hours of the morning. The Turks aren't invading again, it's just the Greek Cypriot way of commemorating the invasion. Peace will be shattered anywhere between 5am and 6.30am over the coming mornings. For more information, visit this link to the Timeline of Events in Cyprus in 1974 as provided by Wikipedia. It's great insight into the history of the Turkish Occupation in North Cyprus. Cyprus Stamps went off on a catamaran cruise along the Limassol coastline last weekend(Saturday 3rd July) courtesy of Michele's employer. Life in Cyprus, as we know it :-) Posted on Friday Jul 2 0:00:00 BST 2010 Listed under: Cyprus Life Our weekend cruise from Limassol
Friday 24 October - Monday 27 October
We took a mini-cruise with Louis Cruise Lines from Limassol New Port on Friday evening, arriving in Beirut city port early Saturday morning to take in a visit to the Armenian area for shopping and later in the "Down Town" shopping areas around Star Square with the ancient Roman baths located beneath the new city buildings. Posted on Monday May 3 6:13:00 BST 2010 Listed under: Cyprus Life Well, it may be a Public or Bank Holiday in many parts of Europe today, including the UK but for us in sunny Cyprus - we're hard at work! Public holidays in Cyprus are taken on the day they fall and not the nearest Monday as generally happens in UK. So for us, it was Labour Day on 1st May which was a Saturday... Roll on 24th May when we can celebrate Kataklysmos Day or Pentecost in Cyprus and this comes from the Greek word "cataclysm" - to wash down. Commonly this holiday weekend is known as Whitsun (tide) in UK and takes place 7 weeks (50 days) after Easter Sunday. Towns and villages across Cyprus will be celebrating with some form of water based activities and if you are here on holidays you will see the children throwing water at each other. The churches celebrate a little differently and a priest will throw a cross into the sea to be retrieved by the onlookers who will dive in after it. The lucky person who brings back the cross will receive a blessing and apparently, a sovereign. Watch out for events happening in all the seaside towns from 22nd to 24th May 2010 to celebrate the Festival of the Flood as it may also be referred to. According to Nicos Kartakoullis, in 2009, Cyprus hosted a number of sporting events – such as the 13th Games of the Small States of Europe – as well as athletes and visiting fans. This resulted in an income of between €13 million and €15 million. Posted on Sunday Dec 6 7:32:00 GMT 2009 Listed under: About Us, Cyprus Life Christmas is coming and soon the television will be full of summer holiday adverts! Ready to make your holiday booking, fancy Cyprus this year but not sure where to start? You can't go far wrong if you read the Hotel Reviews first! Having worked for many years in UK Tour Operations, I've experienced first hand many holiday complaints & disappointments from angry holidaymakers. Don't make the same mistake - follow my rule: research, read and relax.... And - if you're still not entirely certain. Ask the travel agent if any of the staff have visited your favoured holiday location. Most tour operators offer travel agent incentives to sell their holidays by taking them on "educational" visits. These usually entail a week of travelling between resorts, staying in 2 or 3 different hotels, taking part in organised excursions and generally becoming a holidaymaker for a few days whilst gaining an insight into the destination. Above all, make sure you get it right! Otherwise it could be the most expensive and memorable experience of all - for all the wrong reasons! |
